Practicin on roller blades?

since i cant go on the ice very often, is there anything equivalent that i can do on roller blades and on ice skates. i can do cross over, flip from front to back, that sorta thing, but anything else?

i was reading someones answer about not roller blading cause of muscle memory or something... whats that about?

Practicin on roller blades?
You can do swizzles (forward and backwards), spirals (be careful!), one foot glides, 2 foot glides, slalom, dips, shoot the ducks, stroking . . . but stops for sure will be different!

Pic skates are supposed to be the %26quot;closest%26quot; to ice skating. The boots are ice skating boots, so that of course would feel exactly the same as ice skating. But it has a wheel frame, like inline skates, but it%26#039;s configured to be more like an ice skating blade so you can do artistic moves like ice skating. You can get the frames and attach them to your preferred ice skate boot brand, or you can get the boot/frame set from them. Oh but they can be pricey.

The company came to our rink for a demo and I tried them out. The boot feels the same, but the wheels feel different from a blade (more volume, so it%26#039;s clunkier). Technique is a bit different too - especially spins! And it feels slower than being on the ice. That being said, I think it feels closer to ice skates than regular inline (rollerblade) skates.

Some people cross train with rollerblades - as you use similar muscle groups as ice skating. Similar - but not exactly like ice skating.

When you do something repeatedly, your muscle %26quot;remembers%26quot; how to do it . . . and your technique becomes second nature (muscle memory). So imagine if you did something incorrectly over and over . . . you get a muscle memory for a bad habit! The same can go for learning something of a different technique . . . inline skates have a different %26quot;balance%26quot;, %26quot;edging%26quot; and such. Your foot isn%26#039;t gripped inside tightly like an ice skate, so your feet (and leg) muscles will get a different workout than if you ice skate. If you%26#039;re just starting out, it may not make a big difference - and you could actually get accustomed to both fairly well.

If you can%26#039;t get to the ice often, then of course go for the next best thing you can find!!

Here is a book for doing stuff on linline skates . . . and a website - although I think it%26#039;s specific to those Pic Skates.

Here is an article: Figure Skate on Inline Skates

Great for Speed Skaters, Not Recommended for Figure Skaters

Hope that helps!
Reply:Be careful with rollerblades! But there are some things you can do.....

-Just skating around improves your muscles tremendously.

-You can also do dips, shoot the ducks, crossovers, swizzles, and one foot glides.

Whats better roller blades or skates? (read me situation and tell me based on that.)?
I like blades better cuz theyre faster. Skates, you cant really get around cuz theyre difficult to skate in. but youre right. its hard to walk up and down steps and such, but it could benefit you to get to your destinations faster. Good luck!
Reply:Quad roller skates. They%26#039;ve got toe stops you can use to climb the steps.

If you get good enough at knocking people out of line for the bus, you could become a roller derby blocker or pivot. If you skate AROUND them very quickly, become a jammer. Don%26#039;t forget your helmet, pads and mouthpiece!
Reply:well i would have to say a skateboard becuz u dont have to take them off or anything

What brand of roller blades should i get?

ok so what do you think i should get, what kind of roller blades should i get, im just startin to get into it. but im still a rookie, and what roller blades would be best for a beginner for usein at a skate park???

What brand of roller blades should i get?
If you want to learn how to balance rolling, just go to Sports Authority or something to gets some basic fitness skates to familiarize yourself with rolling around.

If you want to rollerblade at the skatepark and plan on doing tricks get some Razor, Usd, Valo. I%26#039;d stay away from Xsjado and Remz, they have too much flex and large soulplates that will only cause you to have the wrong technique. In rollerblading you have to learn to bend your knees.

What type of roller blades are good for daily outside use?

I want to get some roller blades for exercising outside. But does it matter what kind I get? I want them comfortable. But I dont want to wear the wheels down like within a couple weeks of using them outside. I would like somthing affordable. What should I get? Where should I go? Whats the usaul price for roller blades? I dont want to get ripped off.

What type of roller blades are good for daily outside use?
Any inline skates you find will be good for outside.

I probably go through a set of wheels each year but I also typicaly skate 20-40 miles per week. Was down in Miami Beach for the Great EsSkate and did 102 miles over Friday to Sunday.

Avoid the skates from discount stores unless you don%26#039;t intend to skate very often.

The big box sporting goods stores (Dick%26#039;s, SportMart, etc) typicaly carry the low to mid level of the quality skates. You are likely to find Rollerblade and K2 skates and sometimes the BladeRunner Brand which is Rollerblade%26#039;s cheap line.

Depending on where you live, you may have some specialty stores that carry better skates.

Do an online search for inline skate clubs in your area. The people in the clubs can help you find the stores that have good skates and getting started on them.

You can find good skates anywhere from $100 to $200. Generally the higher priced skates have features that make them work better.

Fit is the most important. The skates should be snug all around your feet witout smashing your toes. Basicly the smallest skates that you can wear are the best. Loose feels good while trying them on but doesn%26#039;t when your feet are moving around inside the skates when you use them.

Different models fit different feet better, try on everything.

Women%26#039;s skates are shaped differently but may fit some guys better than the men%26#039;s skates.

Things to look for in a skate:

I don%26#039;t recommend any skate with wheels smaller than 80mm. 80mm is the smallest common size for replacement wheels and the smaller ones are not as good. Bigger wheels roll better but I deffinately wouldn%26#039;t suggest anyone trying to learn on 100mm wheels.

Metal frames (the part that hold the wheels) are better than plastic ones.

Don%26#039;t pay any attention to ABEC ratings of the bearings, it is almost meaningless.

Get a set of pads and a helmet. A bicycle helmet is good for normal skating and can save your life.

Rollerblade is a brand.

The generic term is %26quot;inline skates%26quot;.

Just get whatever the cool people at the skate park have.

Spirit Blade Roller Blades - how to I adjust the brake? It's getting in my way when I skate.?

I just got a pair of Spritblade roller blades. The darn brake on the back of the right foot is getting in my way when I skate. It looks adjustable, but I can not find out how to move it up. Thanks!

Spirit Blade Roller Blades - how to I adjust the brake? It%26#039;s getting in my way when I skate.?
It%26#039;s easy pretty easy to remove. Using the hex/allen key, you take the last axel out which is the one holding on to the brakes as well as the wheel and then it can be remove. But for some skates, you have to have a shorter axel to secure the wheel again so if you don%26#039;t happen to have one, then i suggest that you go back to the shop that you got the skates from. I.m sure they will be more than happy to help you out with that. For most brakes they can%26#039;t be adjusted but can be removed, so if you dont know how to brake without using the brakes, i suggest you don%26#039;t remove it if not like what i said, go back to the shop to see what they can do to help you out.
Reply:Why in the world would you want to stop? I say hammer down full throttle until you find something to grind or launch from and let nature take its course.

But I guess you could also take them back to where you got them or a similar place and have them adjust it. Or it is usually pretty easy if you get ahold of the tool to loosen the bolts (It usually comes with them), and my favorite ask your Dad or husband or local handyman to help.

Roller blades on outdoor court?

My son from time to time roller blades on an outdoor court. I have seen no ill effects from this but someone told us that this will ruin the court?

Roller blades on outdoor court?
souns dangerous to me, and ues it would ruin the court
Reply:it will because it will cause cracks in the court and it takes a lot of money to repair them
Reply:I would imagine that anything that comes in contact with the tennis court surface would wear it down - except for the members%26#039; fuzzy balls.
Reply:It would depend on the surfice. eventually it will wear away but they want the courts to last as long as it can.
Reply:That %26quot;rule%26quot; is normally put in place by the club or the Public Parks and Recreation Department because they don%26#039;t want bikes and rollerblades on the court due to the fact that skids and overall riding can hurt the integrity of the bounce of a tennis ball, which the courts are really made for. I helped with the resurfacing the tennis courts at my high school, due to people riding bikes, rollerblading and weather related cracks, and it was about $30,000 to have all 8 of our courts repaired. Because the cost is so high, both rollerblading and biking are frowned down upon because tennis players don%26#039;t want to have to drop $30,000 (less for a smaller number of courts) before they really have to.

Rollerblade wheels are usually clear and you can%26#039;t see the residue that it creates, but it still has an effect. Sidewalks are the best for rollerblading.
